Pedro Costa

Pedro Costa was born in Macau in 1989. He began his piano studies at age 7 at the Music School “Os Gambozinos” with Suzana Ralha and later at the Conservatory of Music in Porto with Anne Marie Soares.
In 2007 he concluded the Escola Profissional de Música de Espinho where he studied 3 year with Fausto Neves.
Having his Bachelor degree in 2012 (in the class of Luís Filipe Sá) at Escola Superior de Música, Artes e Espectáculo in Porto, he now continues his Master studies with Piet Kuijken at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel where he had studied before one year under the Erasmus Program with Daniel Blumenthal.
He attended piano masterclasses with Sequeira Costa, Miguel Borges Coelho, Luiz Moura Castro, Pedro Burmester, Álvaro Teixeira Lopes, Constantin Sandu, Katia Veekmans and Akiko Ebi.
During the season 2012-2013, he was accepted in the Udo Reinemann’s Internacional Lied Masterclasses having the opportunity to work with musicians as Udo Reinemann, Peter Schreier, Michel Tranchant, Jaroslav Mrazek, Hartmut Höll, Mistuko Shirai and Joseph Breinl.
He was awarded in several competitions in Portugal: 1st Prizes at the Santa Cecília Competition (Porto, 2007), ConCursos Competition (Aveiro, 2011), Florinda Santos Competition (S. João da Madeira, 2012), Internacional Competition “Cidade do Fundão” (Fundão, 2012) and 2nd Prize and Special Prize Lopes­Graça at the Lopes­Graça Competition (Tomar, 2008).
As a very active chamber musician, he is member of the Duo-Concertante with the oboist Guilherme Sousa, with whom won the 1st Prize of the Chamber Music Competition “ConCursos” (Aveiro, 2011) and also member of the Trio Poème with the violinist Nuno Coelho and cellist Catarina Braga, with whom won the 3rd Prize of the National Classical Radio Competition Prémio Jovens Músicos (2013). He was also awarded with the 3rd Prize at the Internacional Competition of Chamber Music (Alcobaça, 2009), and with the 1st Prize at the Chamber Music Competition of ESMAE (Porto, 2011).
He performed at the HARMOS Festival in Porto (2012) with pianist Margot Welleman, recorded for the Euroclassical with the alto Sara Amorim, soprano Noora Karhuluoma and baritone Clément Dionet, and was also invited to play at the Autumn Music Festival in Aveiro.
Recently he was a laureate in the competition New Tenuto in Brussels (2nd prize), with the Prize Helena Sá e Costa in Porto and with the 1st Prize at the Concurso de Interpretação do Estoril.
He also had the opportunity to play as a soloist with the ensemble ASBL under the direction of conductor Lynn Mohr, the Orkest der Lage Landen under the direction of conductor Walter Proost, the Koninklijke Muziekkapel van de Gidsen under the direction of conductor Yves Segers and the Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras under the direction of conductor Luís Carvalho.
