Maria began her dance studies at Academia de Dança Contemporânea de Setúbal (ADC), under the guidance of Maria Bessa and António Rodrigues. She had as teachers Irina Stupina, Carlos Prado, Cristina Maciel, Birte Lundwall, João Mouro, Luís Carolino and Vanda Nascimento in Classical Dance Techniques. In Modern Dance Technique, she had as teachers Andrea Diegues, Maria João Lopes and Marina Sacramento, and Irina Tchernychova in Character Dance, among other teachers. She finished the Dancers Training Course in 2002.
She was part of the ADC Dance Company Pequena Companhia where she performed choreographies of Marius Petipa, Jean Dauberval, Irina Tchernychova, António Rodrigues, Andrea Diegues, Jose Limon, Carlos Prado, Iolanda Rodrigues, Maria João Pires and Karen Bell-Karen.
Maria finished the Bachelor in Physiotherapy (2007) at UATLA – Universidade Atlântica, and is graduated in Theater – Scene Direction and Production (2012) by ESMAE – Escola Superior de Música, Artes e Espetáculo. She integrated the ERASMUS IP project “Sound Art in City Spaces” in 2011, in Vilnius, Lithuania, and in 2016 she finished the advanced training in Dance Movement Therapy at ISPA – Instituto Superior de Psicologia Aplicada.
She is a freelance dancer since 2002, having worked with several choreographers and made many tours in Europe, Africa and Middle East. Maria started teaching dance in 2007 at the 7.ª Posição Dance School in Lisbon, and since then she has been teaching in many schools in Lisbon and Porto the styles of Classical, Contemporary and Jazz Dance.
Maria received the distinction “Máscaras de Ouro 2005” for her effort and professionalism as dancer from Teatro Maria Vitória.
Since 2012 she accumulates roles as cultural producer and scene director.
