Joana Soares

Young Portuguese oboist, Joana studies at the National Superior Conservatory of Music and Dance of Paris in the class of David Walter and Nora Cismondi. She graduated in Music from the University of Aveiro in the class of Jean-Michel Garetti, having previously performed her musical studies at the Music Conservatory of Jobra in the class of Jonathan Costa, Jean-Michel Garetti and Ana Madalena Silva.
Joana was awarded the 3rd place in the Young Artist Oboe Competition – IDRS (Spain), 1st place in the 32nd edition of the Young Musicians Award (Superior Level) and the European Union Prize for Music Competitions.
She performed solo with the Gulbenkian Orchestra and the Filarmonia das Beiras Orchestra, in Portugal.
Born in 1997 in Vale de Cambra, she began her studies at the age of five in a local band.
During her artistic life she had the opportunity to work with renowned oboists such as David Walter, Christian Wetzel, Jean-Luc Fillon, François Leleux, Nora Cismondi, Frédéric Tardy, Christian Schmitt, Robert Silla, J.M. Poupelin, Louise Pellerin, Ricardo Lopes, Pedro Ribeiro and Samuel Bastos, as well as with conductors such as Patrick Davin, Tito Ceccherini, Pierre-André Valade, Julien Leroy, David Walter, Takashi Kondo, Ernst Schelle, Pedro Neves, José Eduardo Gomes, Jan Cober, Andreas Weiß, Marc Lys, Antonio Saiote, José Rafael Vilaplana, Alberto Roque, Alex Shillings, Carlos Marques, Luís Carvalho, Francisco Ferreira, António Vassalo Lourenço and André Granjo, among others.
Joana was a member of the European Capital of Culture Orchestra (Guimarães 2012), the Young Portuguese Orchestra and the Gulbenkian Orchestra Internship.
She collaborates frequently with the Portuguese Symphonic Band and has collaborated with Sine Nomine Orchestra, Filarmonia das Beiras Orchestra, Orchestre de Chambre de la Nouvelle Europe, Orchestre Symphonique et Lyrique de Paris, Orchestre de Colonne and Orchestre Sostenuto.
Joana has been a laureate in various competitions as a soloist, highlighting the 2nd Prize in the 29th Edition of the Young Musicians Prize (Medium Level), the 1st prizes in the International Wind Competition “Terras de La-Salette” on the categories Infantil, Júnior and Senior, and the Prize of the Public and 1st place (ex-aequo) at the Interpretation Prize Frederico de Freitas / University of Aveiro.
As for chamber music, she joined the group pentaUnio (wind quintet), with which she reached 3rd places at the Third National Contest “Gilberta Paiva” and at the 30th edition of the Young Musicians Award (Superior Level).
Also worthy of mention are the participations in the Kultur Sommer Nordhessen (Kassel, Germany) with the Young Portuguese Orchestra, in the World Music Contest (Netherlands) with the Portuguese Symphonic Band, the recording of the CD “The Ghost Ship” with the Portuguese Symphonic Band and a 12-concert tour in China with the Orchestre de Chambre de la Nouvelle Europe.
