Hélder Gonçalves

Born in Cabeceiras de Basto, where he began his musical studies at the Cabeceirense band.  He studied at the Professional Art School of Vale do Ave – ARTAVE. Graduated from the School of Music in Lisbon on clarinet.
Master of Musical Arts in Performance soloist at the University of New Lisbon / Superior School of Music of Lisbon. Doctoral student in clarinet. He studied Orchestra Conduction with Maestro Jean Sebastian Béreu and finished his degree in Orchestra Conduction at the Superior School of Music of Lisbon, in professor Alberto Roque´s class.
As a clarinet performer, he has collaborated with numerous national orchestras such as the Portuguese Symphonic Orchestra, Lisbon Opera Orchestra, Sintra Classical Orchestra, Algarve Orchestra, New Lisbon Orchestra, Contemporary Orchestra New Aveiro Symphony Orchestra, Portugal Symphonic Choir Orchestra, Musical Focus Orchestra, Orchestra of the Music Schools – OPEM in Castelo Branco, Orchestra “Salão Jardim” of the Coliseu do Porto, Trindade Theater Orchestra, Portuguese Youth Symphony Orchestra, ESML Classical Orchestra, Cascais and Oeiras Chamber Orchestra, Portuguese Symphonic Band, among others.
He is regularly invited to perform MasterClasses throughout the country. He is Artistic Director of Sintra´s Festival of Clarinets.
He taught the disciplines of clarinet, chamber music and orchestra at the Music Conservatories of Coimbra, Figueira da Foz, Minde, Palmela, ETIC and Metropolitana de Lisboa.

As a clarinetist, he was awarded in competitions at national and international level, emphasis for the 1st place in the contest of Chamber Music in OPEM in 1999 in Castelo Branco and the Prize for Best Contemporary Music Interpreter Musician in Port 2001- European Capital of Culture. As Maestro won the second category of the International Band Competition ATENEU Vilafranquense Artistic. He was also awarded a Vote of Praise, Congratulation and Rejoice by the Municipal Council of Cabeceiras de Basto in 2016.

He is currently an artist for Buffet Crampon and soloist of the GNR Symphonic Band and Chamber Orchestra. He teaches at the Conservatory of Music of Sintra and Conservatory of Music in Cascais. Since April 2014, he has been artistic director and conductor in the Band of the Philarmonic Society of Commerce and Industry of Amadora.
