Cláudio Cruz

Cláudio Cruz was born in Pico Island, Azores, in 1982. He started his studies by attending the double bass class at the Musical Studies Center of Oporto (Centro de Estudos Musicais do Porto) with Professor José Fidalgo from 2003 to 2006. In 2007 he was admitted in the Music School of the National Conservatory of Lisbon (Escola de Música do Conservatório Nacional de Lisboa), where he studied with João Panta Nunes, Miguel Leiria Pereira e Eli Camargo Jr. (Chamber Music, Analysis and Composition Techniques), finishing the 8th grade in 2010.
In March of 2007 he joins the Youth Symphonic Orchestra (Orquestra Sinfónica Juvenil), where he became the head of the double basses from 2008 to 2011.
In 2010 he was admitted in the Superior School of Music of Lisbon (Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa), where he participated in several events, such as the “Peças Frescas”, and since 2011 many of his works have debuted, such as “A razão de Epiménides” (four clarinet version), “Mar” (voice and electronics), “O Viajante Imóvel” (ensemble), “Montanha Cortada” (wind orchestra), “Circum-tocar” (solo trumpet) and “Mare” (vibraphone and marimba).
In 2013 he finished his licentiate degree, where he worked with Professors Sérgio Azevedo, Carlos Marecos and Carlos Caires.
